From Waste to Resource – Conference

Project Overview
In October, the BCB commissioned us to film their ‘Waste to Resource’ conference. The event brought together industry experts to discuss sustainability in ceramics. Our job was to capture the presentations and panels for their archive and future dissemination.

The Approach
Conferences rely entirely on clarity. If you can’t hear the speaker or see the slides, the footage is useless. We approached this not just as a filming job, but as a full technical override of the venue’s limitations.

Challenges & Solutions
The venue was not designed for filming. The in-house sound system didn’t provide a feed we could trust, and the stage lighting was too dim for cameras.

We bypassed the venue’s audio entirely. We rigged independent radio microphones on the podium and guests, and ran a separate audio recorder, ensuring we had a clean, high-fidelity backup regardless of the room’s PA system. For the visuals, we brought in our own lighting kit. We carefully lit the stage to lift the speakers out of the gloom without blinding them or washing out the projection screen.

Outcome
We delivered a clear, professional record of the conference. By controlling the technical environment ourselves, we ensured the quality of the footage matched the importance of the subject matter.
